RE: champ motor

It all depends on the rpm in question along with the torque numbers ; as what Flatout states is correct.. If you are getting 86 ft lbs of torque at anything over 8000 rpm with a 440 with 34 mm carbs ; you will be capable of winning... Lets see... 86 x 8000 divided by 5252 = 130.99 hp ... doubtful but possible... lets try 9000 which is still lower than everyone runs at ... 86 x 9000 divided by 5252 = 147.37 hp...again; not likely ... now 86 x 7000 divided by 5252 = 114.62...; this is the most likely scenario with producing those torque numbers but it probably won,t win races because the HP (aka work ) isnt enough to overcome the greater hp of a higher rpm setup that still carries enough torque to make more hp ( aka work). To get 130 hp with the lowest rpm would be best for efficiency but with a 440 you will need approx 68 ft. lbs of torque at 10000 to get those kind of hp numbers ... 68 x 10000 divided by 5252 = 129.47 hp ... now that is the area that most front runners run at.... Just for giggles lets see what 86 ft lbs of torque at 10000 will give ... 86 x 10000 divided by 5252 = 163.74 hp ... very not likely ... What rpm are you getting those torque numbers at ??? ---- mike

RE: Moving Home

Get well soon Tom ... Tom raced F1 twin tracks very successfully with no serious injuries that I can remember ; then a fluke car accident hurts him bad... Sometimes things just seem unreal in situations like this. I know Tom is a tough old racer at heart and will be back on his feet again soon.--- mike gifford

RE: WISH LIST... "New Champ Rules"

I think that 6 inches of carbide would be a reasonable and easily teched rule that would help keep the speeds from increasing . The stud numbers would be self regulating in that the teams would be forced to balance the front end traction with the back to find the best handling. I also think that the sleds would be less twitchy as well as less tiring to drive and would make the racing tighter. The fast teams will still find a way to be faster but overall the racing would be closer. The 600 engine size is imminent, but not yet. With the demise of 440 snocross classes these engines are fairly inexpensive and I think that the class should remain as 440 for at least a few years yet to capitalize on this . imho --- mike

Howie says Larry was leading his race but highsided and plugged it. They have the sled repaired and are anxious for the rest of the weekend and say the sled is fast .

RE: Jacques Villeneuve

Gilles was killed in Europe while testing not Canada. The other car involved was ironically the only F1 car that his brother Jacques was ever to drive , but it did not work out. The racing careers of Jacques and Gilles were varied and the list is very long. Our snowmobiling Jacques was the first Canadian to win an Indy Car race ; winning at Elkhart Lake in the eighties.

RE: Jacques Villeneuve

The correct answer is they are related but not the same person... the Jacques that is racing Nascar is not the Jacques Villeneuve of the snowmobile world . It is the nephew of our snowmobiling Jacques. The brothers Jacques and Gilles from Quebec have both been world champion snowmobile racers but Gilles son ; Jacques who was named after his younger brother ; does not race snowmobiles. There is often confusion among spectators and fans that recognize the name but are not aware that there are two Jacques Villeneuve racers . The older "Uncle Jacques is 54 years old and has raced almost everything there is from Can-Am ; Formula Ford; Formula Atlantic ; Indy Cars as well as boats and Snowmobiles. The younger nephew; Jacques Villeneuve has raced Indy cars ; Formula 1 as well as the Nascar trucks and cars but not snowmobiles. They are indeed a great racing family.

RE: Ban on leaded race fuel !!!

I agree with John on this in that we will adapt without too much hardship. It is a bit overly skeptical to say that unleaded fuels will end racing. Even if the only race fuel available was 92 octane premium unleaded we would find a way . It just might have the opposite effect and level the playing field to encourage more racing. It will NOT spell the end of ANY form of motorsport at all in that there are other additives besides lead that raise octane rating.... ---In my Humble Opinion. --- mike
